The Entertainer is one of the most popular rags ever written. Scott Joplin (1868-1917) earned the name of “King of Ragtime” in the 1890’s and early 20th century with his dance style of ‘ragged’ melodies, stride bass and syncopations. Although popularity waned around 1920, a more recent revival has made rag and jazz a much sought after genre of entertainment by amateur and professional musicians. The Entertainer was popularized through its use as the theme movie for The Sting.
